Comic Book Review

From the Pull List: August 8th 2018

This weeks books, I’ll review them in the comments after I read them:
  • Superman #2
  • Fantastic Four #1
  • Amazing Spider-Man #3
  • Daredevil #606
  • The Dead Hand #5
  • Hunt For Wolverine: Adamantium Agenda #4 (of 4)
  • Spider-Man Annual #1

Superman #2 was alright. I don’t feel it was as strong as the first one. It felt like nothing really happened and it was just a big explanation about the plot twist at the end of issue 1. I don’t like the “bad” guy that they created that is essentially a Thanos. If this keeps up I’m probably going to drop this book.

Fantastic Four #1 was meh. I mean I’m not disappointed that Reed and Sue are not back yet like I’m sure a lot of readers were. It was just…there. Nothing really grabbed me. Even the side story of Dr. Doom didn’t, and I do love Victor. I probably won’t be adding this to my pull list.

Amazing Spider-Man #3 was very interesting. Dialogue was great and felt human, and the artwork was astonishing as per usual. Simple fun style art. The story is what got me… isn’t there enough variations of spider-man already? Please tell me this is just a story arch and at the end we won’t end up with yet another spider-man.

Daredevil #606 was great. I like the idea that he is putting together a team and bringing get in cypher and Mcgee from his last team up in the hunt for wolverine series was good. Adding reader to the mix is also interesting and seeing how they are both blind and making comparisons was pretty cool. Still one has to wonder if the team is too much about eyes, as you know with Mcgee having the glowing eyes that act like a camera. Who is next to join the team? Alicia Masters? No, but the ending with Mike Murdock is pretty interesting, but again are we dealing with more clones… has marvel really only one trick up its sleeve?

The Dead Hand #5 provided a backstory for everything. Well not like we didn’t understand it already but it cemented in all of the details. I do wonder if they are going to kill off our main guy, and the daughter of the one woman is going to have to try and connect with the dead hand project and stop it from blowing up the world.

Hunt For Wolverine: Adamantium Agenda #4 was a lot better than the last issue, and it ends pretty well with the two facts, that 1 weapon x girl is not just a clone of logan and 2 that the xmen have someone posing as a mutant. Of course that could be ink as his powers come from tattoos made by a mutant that gives the tattoos powers.

Spider-Man Annual #1 just didn’t feel strong enough. I was afraid of this. With Bendis gone, Miles doesn’t feel like Miles. I can see that the current writer is trying, but it just seems off. I can’t particularly put my finger on it as of yet. Still this might be a good time to close the chapter on Miles and make room for other books.
