From the Pull List: July 18th 2018
This weeks books, I’ll review them in the comments after I read them:
- The Magic Order #2
- The Life Of Captain Marvel #1 (of 5)
- Jessica Jones #1
- Batman #51
- Gideon Falls #5
- Hunt For Wolverine: Claws Of A Killer #3 (of 4)
- Justice League #4
- Old Man Hawkeye #7 (of 12)
- Shadowman #5
- The Wild Storm #15
The Magic Order #2 continues to impress the hell out of me. Such a great story right out of the gates. Extremely inventive concepts on the use of magic and the illustrations are to kill for.
The Life Of Captain Marvel #1 (of 5) was interesting to see the troubled history of her past, as well as her current strain of her relations with her Mother and Brother. An interesting twist about her father having an affair and the alien tech found. I guess we will find out what that is all about in the next few issues.
Jessica Jones #1 Jessica Jones #1 holy hell that was amazing. I wasn’t expecting this book to be this damn good. I just saw the preview of the first few pages of art and loved the colouring and thought I’ll give it a shot. I was totally blown away. Story is top notch, the art is fantastic especially the angles of the shots, and yeah the lighting in the colouring is breathtaking.
Batman #51 Batman #51 was a really nice change of pace. I almost wish they took even more time with the courtroom drama, and even with Grayson filling in they could have drawn that out as well and they would have sold me.
Jessica Jones – Marvel Digital Original #2 I was completely blown away by the first issue. The second continues to impress. This massive book (45 Pages) is packed with perfection. The story is absolutely amazing by Kelly Thompson! I’m completely hooked. Though I can already feel this arch coming to a close. I really hope this is not a short run and that it continues on. The artwork is absolutely gorgeous by Mattia de Iulis. Such great composition and structure in the characters and environment!
Gideon Falls #5 was pretty creepy. Love how that “Dad” part slipped, and I’m curious as to what is going to happen now that the black barn doors are open.
Hunt For Wolverine: Claws Of A Killer #3 (of 4) was interesting. I love how they handle Sabretooth, his dialogue is the best. Interesting to see that this issue brought us the resurrection of Sabretooth’s son and Lady Deathstrike’s father. 1 more issue left for this so hopefully the ending brings some clue into where Wolverine is.
Justice League #4 was also very good, even though this is more on a cosmic scale and I enjoy street level stories more. It’s refreshing to see the villains being used to their actual potential and not just as knuckleheaded henchmen.
Old Man Hawkeye #7 (of 12) was good. This was a flashback story as to what happened when all of the villains teamed up and destroyed the heroes. It was interesting to see that they left Hawkeye live based on the fact that he wasn’t a “real” hero. This has been a damn good run so far.
Shadowman #5 was another story in the past. It’s interesting and giving some depth to the entire concept of the book. I’ll have to see where this leads us.
The Wild Storm #15 was good, and I can see now that the sides are all opposing and the heat is brewing for a war between heaven and earth per say. Best part of the book was the backlash scenes. That was really well done.
