Comic Review

From the Pull List: June 27th 2018

This weeks books, I’ll review them in the comments after I read them:

  • The Standoff #1
  • Astro City #52
  • Descender #31
  • Hunt For Wolverine: Mystery In Madripoor #2 (of 4)
  • Kill Or Be Killed #20
  • Old Man Hawkeye #6 (of 12)
  • The Realm #7
  • Saga #53
  • X-O Manowar (2017) #16

The Standoff #1 was okay. Maybe it is moving too fast and far too predictable? Like okay we have this interesting setting a UFO crashes into a prison… but beyond that I’m looking for something that makes this more than what we have seen in tons of horror films already.

Astro City #52 I had no idea this was the last issue. Of course this series has ended before. Still I’ve read everything in this universe and it has some of the richest stories for superhero genres. It was a nice ending to the latest story, but I feel like I still need more. We shall see as I know they are in development for another side Story from the main book.

Descender #31 was good. Not great, but I feel like since the robot war started the series has not been as strong. Mind you this is the second last issue of the series and overall it has been a good read.

Hunt For Wolverine: Mystery In Madripoor #2 (of 4) was a little better but still not strong. The art is not good, it’s difficult to even identify what character is what, and the proportions are way off.

Kill Or Be Killed #20 the final book was good. While I did like the ending it wasn’t as strong as the rest of the series. Maybe that’s because I didn’t want it to end, but it wouldn’t have been good to keep it going any farther either. Well done and my hats off to the creative team as this was the book I enjoyed most each month.

Old Man Hawkeye #6 (of 12) was okay as well. I don’t feel it was as strong as the previous issues. Still Bullseye is rockin’ it. Hoping for much more next issue, like the previous ones as this one just wasn’t as strong for me.

The Realm #7 was good, this epic journey is coming along and the characters are starting to get fleshed out. Again great post apocalyptic dungeons and dragons tale.

Saga #53 was great. A lot of what has been building has come to realization. I’m not sure if robot is dead. I mean the will did rip his head off, but again who knows since they are a robot race. Though it would not be unlike saga when people die, they die and stay dead.

X-O Manowar (2017) #16 felt like filler. Nice side Story of the past but where does it lead to?
