Comic Review

From the Pull List: October 3rd 2018

This weeks books, I’ll review them in the comments after I read them:

  • A Walk Through Hell #5
  • The Magic Order #4
  • Justice League (2018-) #9
  • Batman (2016-) #56

>A Walk Through Hell #5 gave some further background to some of the characters in the story, but I felt like we are really not progressing much further this issue. It’s still a good story, but perhaps Garth Ennis is building to something.

The Magic Order #4 was decent, maybe that is because I really enjoyed the previous issues so much that even though a lot takes place in this issue I didn’t feel as excited as when I read the others. The story is well crafted by Mark Millar and I love the twists and concepts of how magic works. Like the idea of the club that exists in multiple timelines yet the patrons are not allowed to speak with others from different timelines. Olivier Coipel continues to impress with amazing artwork. You can really tell with all the details of the outfits.

Justice League (2018-) #9 Was a nice story from our heroes perspective giving a little bit of face time for each of the major characters and showing each of their personalities through their personal rooms in the hall. I was a little uneasy about the fact that Batman was attempting to pull one over on Superman. It seemed petty and a bit out there, but still I could see it. One thing that has me curious when Superman said “Bat Moon” near the end. I was a little lost, did I miss something visually or did they just not show it? Keep up the good work Scott Snyder and Jorge Jimenez.

Batman (2016-) #56 did a nice job of giving us more depth into this new (or old) adversary. The character is new to me, but perhaps they have been around for a while as the backstory suggests that he lost his arm in a 127 hours type situation due to Batman. Once again, the story by Tom King and art by Tony Daniel is top notch.
